Embrace your treatment at ethos™

Once you have had your first consultation and your parents have agreed your treatment plan, it is time to start the treatment itself.

The orthodontist will already have discussed with you which of the treatment choices will suit you best.

It might be Invisalign or one of the different types of braces we offer.

Your fitting appointment

You don’t need to worry when you come to have your Invisalign or braces fitted – the fitting isn’t painful!

Once the Invisalign or braces are properly fitted, the orthodontists will take time to explain how to look after them and give you other tips to make sure everything goes smoothly.

During this visit we will also make records of your teeth including:

  • photos of your smile and profile (your ‘before’ and ‘after’ shots will be interesting to compare!)
  • close-up photos of your face, teeth and bite

Regular adjustments

The way orthodontics treatments work is to train your teeth into new positions step-by-step. This means that, whether you use Invisalign or braces, once your teeth have moved a little, we need to adjust the treatment to encourage them to the next position.

You will have regular appointments to adjust your braces or to fit the next stage of your Invisalign treatment. The amount of time between check-ups will vary depending on which treatment you choose – the orthodontist will tell you when you need to come back.

These appointments usually only take about 10 minutes and the cost is included in your treatment plan.

Remember each time you come to have your braces adjusted you can also choose new colours.

How long will it take until the treatment is complete and you can reveal your new smile to the world? That will vary depending on your teeth and treatment method but is usually between 12 and 24 months.

Tip of the month

If your gums bleed or become sore after flossing, do not panic. If you have not been flossing regularly then the gums will be inflamed and will bleed more easily. If the bleeding persists - see your dentist.

Toothbrush Hygiene

Toothbrushes can be a breeding ground for a variety of germs. Bacteria, viruses and fungi can breed in environments that are warm and moist. What can you do to prevent this? more
