You can guess what we’re going to say now! There are some foods that just don’t go with wearing braces. You can probably guess why, too.

  • toffee or caramel lollies and toffee apples
  • other firm or sticky lollies such as Minties, Red Skins, jelly babies, jaw breakers etc
  • bubble gum ("extra" chewing gum is ok!)
  • nuts and muesli bars
  • corn chips
  • corn on the cob
  • ice
  • bones

Anything that is this hard to crunch or too sticky might break your braces. So, just don’t even think about it with these foods. And remember - there are plenty of other yummy things you can eat. Go for them instead!

There are also some foods that are still OK, but you’ll need to take special care with them:

  • hard fruit and raw vegetables like apples or carrots
  • crusty bread rolls

These are OK if they are cut into bite-size pieces, but don’t take a big bite out of a whole one!
Chew these with your back teeth only.
