Your questions answered – Invisalign Teen

Can I take my Invisalign aligner out?

Yes. Invisalign is designed to be removed when you eat and when you clean your teeth. You should keep it in at other times, including at night.

How do I put it back in?

Make sure you have the proper aligner – the upper for your top teeth and the lower for your bottom teeth. When inserting aligner, gently push the aligners over your front teeth. Then apply equal pressure, using your fingertips to the tops of your left and right molars (back teeth) until the aligner snaps into place.

How do I clean my Invisalign aligner?

Clean your aligners prior to each insertion. Use a soft bristle toothbrush using water and a small amount of toothpaste. Note: be sure to rinse each aligner thoroughly with water after each cleaning.

What about energy drinks or soda pop?

ALWAYS remove your aligners before drinking anything except cool water. And after drinking a beverage, rinse your mouth thoroughly before replacing your aligners. This will help prevent tooth decay or loss of tooth enamel due to sugar, citric acid, or other drink ingredients.

Can I chew gum while wearing Invisalign Teen aligners?

NO. Gum will stick to the aligners. We recommend removing your aligners for all snacks and meals.

Will wearing the Invisalign Teen aligners affect my speech?

Like all orthodontic treatments, the aligners may temporarily affect your speech, and you may have a slight lisp for a day or two. However, as your tongue gets used to having aligners in your mouth, any lisp or minor speech impediment caused by your aligners should disappear.

What if I lose of break an Invisalign Teen aligner?

In the event that an aligner is lost or broken, you should immediately inform your doctor. Your doctor will probably tell you to start wearing your last set or next set of aligners immediately. He or she will possibly order you a new set of aligners to replace the ones you lost, which should arrive in a few days.

Tip of the month

If your gums bleed or become sore after flossing, do not panic. If you have not been flossing regularly then the gums will be inflamed and will bleed more easily. If the bleeding persists - see your dentist.
